THE PAST TWO YEARS SAW an extensive regional campaign to save the southern Appalachian mountains from the threat of the proposed Dominion power plant. In a truly historical campaign, people living in the southern Appalachian region rallied together over this issue and joined forces in the most spectacular ways. An amazing grass roots network was built across the region and raised public awareness about the horrors of mountaintop removal and life under King Coal.
But the threat of the Dominion power plant still looms and action is necessary now more than ever. Activists based in Appalachia, VA, are calling people to not give up, and invite them to meet in the mountains that are threatened by greed and recklessness, and to stand up together for a sustainable future.
Join them for a Weekend in Wise County, in the beautiful mountains of Appalachia, on the weekend of September 12-14. The weekend will include tours of mountaintop removal sites, service projects, local music, hiking and canoeing trips, as well as trainings on how to bring the fight for a clean energy future back to your hometown. You'll get to meet the folks leading the charge against the greed of coal and energy companies by standing up for a brighter future. Most of all, you'll get to see the beauty of the land we are all fighting to protect, and witness the devastation that threatens Appalachia's future.
